Securitisation Event 2014

Recently, ING has won the Securitisation Award 2014 with its innovative securitisation referred to as the Orange Lion 2013-10 RMBS transaction. The audience of the yearly Securitisation Event voted ING’s nomination as the winning securitisation because of its innovative way in which it accomplished the derecognition of part of the WestlandUtrecht Bank Dutch residential mortgage portfolio.

This transaction was successfully placed with external investors in such a way that the portfolio could be transferred off the ING balance sheet which contributed to ING’s goal of enhancing its balance sheet management.

This landmark transaction was not only beneficial to ING, but the structure can also work well for other banks needing to adjust their balance sheets in response to more strict regulatory requirements.

This type of transaction offers attractive investment opportunities in particular for long-term investors with long dated liabilities such as pension funds and insurance companies.

Léon Maagdenberg, manager Capital Management: “ Orange Lion 10 is what securitisation is all about: it’s a balance sheet management tool which allows for distribution of risk to the right investors.” To hear more from Leon about why this transaction is so innovative, watch his nomination pitch:
