ING assists companies in developing countries to identify and structure emission reduction projects under the rules of the United Nation's Kyoto Protocol. These projects fall under the Joint Implementation (JI) or Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) scheme. ING helps clients to structure emission reduction projects, to sell the emission reductions to buyers in industrialised countries (mainly Europe) and to negotiate the best prices and terms.

Transactions to date include wind farms and waste heat utilisation projects in China, coal mine methane and energy efficiency in the Ukraine and energy efficiency projects in Russia.
