- ING is the first major Dutch financial
institution to be 100% carbon neutral. This means that by lowering
our energy consumption, using green energy and offsetting carbon
consumption by planting trees, we have reduced our CO2 emission to
zero.
- Our
Environmental Statement is a guide for our
business units on how to limit environmental impact. As an
office-based organisation, our own impact mainly derives from the
energy we use in our buildings, the paper we use and business
travel. The Statement urges business units to address these areas,
as we consider each of them key in the international debate on
climate change.
- In about 81% of ING business units energy
efficiency measures have been taken. In 2007, this has led to a
decrease of our total energy consumption of 19% compared to
2006.
- We purchase
green electricity world-wide. In 2007, all
electricity purchased for our offices in the Netherlands, the
United States and Belgium came from renewable resources (100%
green). This is about 51% of our total energy use.
- Other examples of best practices include our
sustainable products. By the end of 2007, we had €2,792 million
sustainable assets under management. This is an increase of 27%
compared to 2006.
- ING Group is a member of the
Global Round Table on Climate Change, an
initiative of the Earth Institute at Colombia University, New York.
The round table brings together high-level stakeholders to attempt
to reach consensus on core scientific, economic and policy issues
critical to shaping sound public policy on climate change. On 19
February 2007, ING signed the ‘Joint Statement by the Global
Roundtable on Climate Change; The Path to Climate
Sustainability’. Learn more about the
Joint Statement.
- For the fourth year in a row, ING has been
listed ‘best in class’ company in the Carbon Disclosure Project's
Climate Leadership Index (CLI). The CLI comprises 50 of the FT500
companies that lead their sector in their responses to the climate
change challenge. For more information, please visit the website of
the
Carbon Disclosure Project.
