Equitable of Iowa

Equitable Life Insurance Company of Iowa was founded in 1867 by 15 prominent citizens of Des Moines (Iowa, US). In 1888, co-founder F.M. Hubbell became the 4th president of the company. Many of his male descendants would assume the same role in the years to come, most recently by Frederick S. Hubbell (1987), one of the present Executive Board members of ING Group. In 1984, Equitable of Iowa Companies did a comprehensive review of the marketplace, its competition, and itself. In 1987 a strategic decision followed to expand further into insurance and financial services.

Equitable of Iowa Companies has been part of ING since 1997. Its subsidiaries are active throughout the United States in the annuity, life insurance and investment markets.
