ING workers support Haiti disaster relief

Across the world ING employees have responded to the tragedy unfolding in Haiti in the wake of the devastating earthquake on 12th January. Their contributions are then doubled by ING.

International contributions continue to stream in and it is anticipated that a target contribution to UNICEF of EUR 200,000 will soon be exceeded.

I think this is a wonderful initiative” says Magali Van Hauwermeiren, a Savings & Investment Vendor for ING Belgium. “Most of us live in relative luxury and hopefully our contributions can help people in Haiti, and children in particular.

“The response shows how ING employees genuinely care about the world in which we live. So when a humanitarian disaster like this occurs, of course, just like other people, we also want to help in whatever small way we can.”

Employees can donate via the ING Chances for Children programme, which for some years now has been in global partnership with UNICEF to support children’s education projects in developing countries.

UNICEF will use these donations to provide emergency relief to children in Haiti in the short-term and over the longer-term to help the Haitian government reconstruct the country’s education infrastructure.

In addition, as soon as the disaster became apparent, ING immediately donated EUR 30,000 from the ING Group Disaster Relief Fund to the Red Cross. This provided emergency items to people in Haiti such as blankets, water containers and cooking equipment.
