Great Expectations: Art & Opportunities in the United Arab Emirates
On Thursday, November 8, 2007 a seminar will take place in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, dedicated to the cultural developments in the United Arab Emirates and the resulting opportunities for Western art organisations and the business community.
The ambitious activities unfolded by the Emirates in the field of art and culture are continuing to surprise the world. Abu Dhabi is on its way to transform itself into the cultural capital of the Middle East and Dubai and Sharjah embrace massive cultural happenings as the DIFC Gulf Art Fair and the Sharjah Biennial.
Contacts between the Emirates and Western art institutions about expanding and intensifying cultural relationships take place on the highest level.
After introductions by experts on the political, social-economic and cultural situation in the region, directly involved officials from the U.A.E. and Europe will share their views on these developments during the seminar Great Expectations – Art & Opportunities in the United Arab Emirates.
Top officials of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (Saadiyat Island), the Dubai Cultural Council and the Sharjah Biennial will elaborate on the motives and purposes of the Emirati. Board members of Western cultural organizations, such as the Louvre, auction house Sotheby’s and the DIGC Gulf Art Fair will reveal how the cooperation with the Emirates came about and what it purports.
