Solar Panels

E.ON and ING have joined forces to supply and finance the purchase of solar panels. ING is offering its customers special financing terms when buying solar panels from E.ON. In turn, E.ON is selling the solar panels to ING customers at a discount. The collaboration is aimed at making it more attractive for consumers to invest in solar panels.

Government subsidy for solar panels

Many Dutch consumers who consider buying solar panels are put off by the relatively high cost of the investment. That is why the government has been subsidising the purchase of solar panels for some time now. Households can apply for subsidy from 2 July 2012 to 28 December 2013.

Agentschap NL is in charge of administering the scheme on behalf of the ministry of Economic Affairs. Agentschap NL is the administration agency of the federal government when it comes to matters concerning sustainability, innovation and international business practices.

On 15 January 2013 a total of 44,276 applications for subsidy had already been received. The total budget made available by the ministry of Economic Affairs for 2012 and 2013 is € 50,882,000. The total amount of subsidy requested so far is € 24,738,752, meaning that an amount of € 26,143,248 is still available.

Discount

This subsidy together with the discounted price of the solar panels and ING’s green financing option make it more attractive for consumers to buy solar panels. ING is using its purchasing power to help customers get an attractive offer. Customers can get a sharp interest rate and repay the loan early without having to pay a fine. The loan is also tax-deductible as a home improvement.

Average saving of € 300 per year

The average time it takes to recoup the costs of solar panels is eight years. This depends on where they are installed, the steepness of the slope they are on, energy price movements and inflation. The average energy savings are € 300 per year for six panels.
