Erik Van Den Eynden (49) has been appointed as the new CEO of ING in Belgium. Erik starts in his new role today, 1 March 2017, and is tasked with leading ING in Belgium successfully through its proposed transformation.

Erik began his ING career in 1990 as a management trainee at Banque Bruxelles Lambert (BBL). In the following 27 years, he has built up extensive experience in retail banking, wholesale banking and insurance. In 2009 he was appointed CEO of ING Insurance Belgium, Luxembourg & Variable Annuities Europe, and in 2012 he became head of MidCorporates and Institutionals at ING in Belgium.

Erik succeeds Rik Vandenberghe, who is leaving ING to become CEO of BESIX Group, Belgium’s largest construction conglomerate.

Koos Timmermans, vice-chairman of the Management Board Banking and head of ING Market Leaders, said: “Erik has a proven track record in attracting customers, building primary relationships and growing businesses. He is a leader that empowers those around him to be successful. That makes him the right person, in the right place, to lead ING in Belgium through its proposed transformation.”

In wishing Erik all the best in his new role, Koos also took the opportunity to thank outgoing CEO Rik Vandenberghe for his three decades of devoted service to ING.
