Last week ING ’s global head of Commercial Banking William Connelly visited ING’s offices in the Philippines to celebrate together with employees and clients ING’s 25th anniversary in the country.

ING Bank set up its representative office in 1990 and became the first foreign bank to upgrade into a universal bank in 1995. Since then, ING Bank has grown into a key player in financial markets, mergers and acquisitions, and specialised sector financing, such as in the power, utilities and infrastructure sector.

William Connelly hosted, together with country CEO Zondy Garcia and ING’s CEO Commercial Banking Asia Mark Newman, a media round table with local media during which he explained that ING Bank sees huge opportunities in the Philippines as the country continues to post high GDP growth and show strong demand in the infrastructure, power and utilities sector.

Cross-border trade and investment are also increasing, a trend that is expected to continue and that will lead to further growth opportunities for local and international corporates.
