22 January 2015 ... min read

Only by acting with professionalism and integrity can we maintain our stakeholders’ confidence and preserve our company’s reputation. That’s why ING launched new ING Values.

On 22 January 2015, ING launched a set of ING Values, which are:

  • We are honest
  • We are prudent
  • We are responsible

They apply to every single employee of ING.

Ralph Hamers, CEO of ING: “Integrity is the foundation on which our business is built. Through our operations we touch the lives of many customers. They need to be confident that we are acting in their best interests to help them achieve their financial objectives. ING – through the ING Values: acting with honesty, prudence and responsibility – shows that we are committed to pursuing our business on the basis of sound business ethics.”

Integrity is the foundation on which our business is built

Why ING Values?

As an international financial institution, ING enables economic and social change that influences the lives of many. That is why we strive to be both profitable and just. We can only do well by doing right for all our stakeholders. Our business centres around people and trust. Being entrusted with other people’s money is a responsibility we take very seriously.

Only by acting with professionalism and integrity can we maintain our stakeholders’ confidence and preserve our company’s reputation. The ING Values play an important role in this respect. ING refreshes its values every five years to ensure their relevance in a changing environment.

Foundation of our strategy, culture and operations

The ING Values were first introduced in 1999 – then “ING Business Principles” - and set a global standard of values expected of every employee. Our values express what we hold dear, what we believe in and what we aim for. Living up to them helps us to make decisions that can stand the test of time. Each value is equally important, and taken as a whole, they form our collective conscience. As such, they are the foundation of our strategy, our culture and our day-to-day operations.

Mandatory

The values are not voluntary suggestions. They are non-negotiable, and every single ING employee is responsible for complying with them. The values will help us to deliver on our purpose, both today and tomorrow: empowering people to stay a step ahead in life and in business.
