ING was named to CDP’s Climate A-list of 126 companies leading on climate change action, the fourth year in a row we’ve received this recognition.

This is a reflection of ING’s overall climate action leadership. Because while our good performance on operational CO2 emissions remain a large factor in our scoring, there are many other indicators that are considered: governance; risk management; opportunity management, including (financial) products and services; and climate change strategy, including our metrics and targets.

ING strives to be a leader in environmental performance. We monitor and manage our operational environmental impact closely, and believe setting ambitions helps us become a more resource-efficient company.

We invest in operational eco-efficiency solutions, are committed to powering 100% of ING buildings with renewable electricity by 2020, integrate sustainability in our procurement processes and have been offsetting our remaining carbon emissions since 2007. Our science-based targets and Environmental Programme help keep us on track. We have already achieved substantial progress on many of our objectives.

With the help of the Environmental Programme ING has decreased our total carbon footprint by 37% as of year-end 2017 compared to 2014 while also increasing coverage of our emissions monitoring. This is thanks to an increase of renewable electricity consumption and a decrease in total energy consumption.

CDP is a leading global non-profit that uses measurement and disclosure to improve the way companies and governments manage environmental risk. In 2018 it assessed thousands of companies on their environmental performance related to climate change on behalf of 650 investors with over $87 trillion in assets. Companies receive scores of A to D- for how effectively they are tackling climate change, deforestation and water security.

The Climate A-List and full company scores are available on CDP’s website.
