ING takes academic approach to AI

27 March 2019 ... min read

ING and TU Delft (the Delft University of Technology) are combining their knowledge and expertise on artificial intelligence (AI) in a new AI fintech lab.

At the lab, which will open this summer, scientists and students of TU Delft will research artificial intelligence, data analytics, and software analytics.

“Artificial intelligence enables us to predict customer wants and needs, but also make ING a safer and more compliant bank,” said ING chief analytics officer Görkem Köseoğlu.

“The collaboration will provide us with access to expertise and AI talent to help us achieve this and become a ‘smarter’ bank,” he said.

ING and TU Delft already have an established partnership in the field of software research and development.

“The AI for FinTech Lab (AFL) is a logical next step as it offers us a chance to develop new theories, methods and tools in the field of artificial intelligence,” said Arie van Deursen, professor of software engineering at TU Delft and research managing director of the AFL.

“We expect this not only to result in pioneering theories, but also validated solutions that can be distributed widely,” he said.

The AFL, which is part of the Dutch Innovation Centre for Artificial Intelligence, will be on two locations: at the university’s campus in Delft and the new campus area that ING is developing in Amsterdam Southeast.
