ING announced today that Andrea Diamanti will be appointed as chief executive officer of ING Italy, effective 1 January 2026. Andrea will succeed Michal Szczurek, who has led ING Italy since January 2023 and played a key role in relaunching ING Italy’s growth ambition and enhancing the footprint of the universal bank offering in Italy. Michal will continue his current role as Vice-Chairman of the ING Poland Supervisory Board.

Andrea joined ING Italy in 2023 as head of Wholesale Banking. As CEO he will oversee ING’s retail and wholesale banking businesses in Italy, reporting directly to Pinar Abay, global head of Retail Banking and member of ING Group's Management Board Banking.

Pinar Abay commented:
“Italy is a key country in ING's growth story: we have been present here since 2001 with our retail offering and have strengthened our presence and our offering for Italian customers year after year, pioneering digital banking in the market.

I am confident that Andrea, with his extensive international experience and the excellent results achieved at the helm of Wholesale Banking in Italy, will build on the successful foundation laid by Michal, to lead ING to the next step in its growth plan as a universal bank in Italy.”

Andrea Diamanti said:
“I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to getting to work to unlock the full untapped potential of this wonderful organization, including leveraging the synergies created by our universal banking model for the benefit of our clients, from private individuals to large businesses.”

Andrea will also remain head of Wholesale Banking for ING Italy until the appointment of his successor.

ING has been present in Italy since 1979 through Wholesale Banking and since 2001 in Retail Banking, pioneering digital banking in the country. Today, we serve more than 1.3 million retail customers in Italy, making us one of Italy’s leading digital banks, covering payments, savings, mortgages, investments, insurance, and personal loans – with a robust wholesale banking platform that supports mid-sized and large corporates.
