Ron van Kemenade, CIO ING Bank, has been awarded European Chief Information Officer of the Year in the category ‘large organisation’ by CIONET, an international community of IT executives.

With this award CIONET recognises CIOs who have managed to increase their organisation’s competitiveness through the use of information and communication technologies (ICT).

Frederic De Meyer, program director at CIONET international, added: ”It’s striking how much more business impact these CIOs are having. They have all put programmes in place to get their ICT teams working closely with business people, sometimes in very innovative ways.”

21 finalists from eight European countries competed in three award categories: the public sector, medium-sized IT organisations with less than 150 FTEs and large organisations of more than 150 FTEs.

All winners were selected on the basis of both their own and their team’s accomplishments. Ron gave kudos to the ING teamwork when he responded on Twitter after receiving the award: “Feels like real recognition for all these great people working for ING.”
